I haven't had much urge to knit this summer. When we haven't been traveling I have been sewing up a storm and busy in the garden. However, the last few days were rainy and even a bit chilly, which got me thinking about fall and all that must be done to prepare for the colder months ahead. So here I am today joining Ginny once again for her weekly yarn along.
Last night I started a neck down cardigan for Molly. No pattern, I'm making it up as I go. Taking notes of course in the event that it comes out great and I want to repeat or share the pattern! The plan right now is a simple cap sleeve cardi with just a few buttons at the top (cute little twig buttons that Molly and I made together). I'm using yarn-overs for the arm increases and I love it! A lovely lacy line is forming. I may do an owl cable somewhere as she loves them so, but right now I've obviously just started. The yarn is Azapa by Araucania yarns. I guess they aren't making it any more it's a yummy merino, silk, alpaca blend in bulky weight and I just saw that they have some on a discontinued sale at Jimmybeanswool. I haven't ever purchased from this retailer before, but what a great deal on some super soft yarn!
As for books I've recently started reading The Mysterious Benedict Society byTrenton Lee Stewart. This is a childrens book that my son read last year and adored, if you enjoy children's literature at all this is a fun series. 4 very unlikely heros, great for kids or as a family read aloud. My friend Rachel over at housefullofjays would surely love it.
I've also once again picked up Clear the Clutter and Organizing Plain and Simple as things around here need some help. I've had both of these books for a while and they are often found at the bottom of a pile so I can't claim that they work, but it never hurts to look for a little inspiration right?
Looking forward to seeing what folks are knitting a reading this week. Thanks to Ginny for hosting!

Jaw dropping WoW that you are just winging a sweater! I can't wait to see it! xx
ReplyDeleteI love The Mysterious Benedict Society. I think I like the series more than my son, who read it earlier this year, hehe. What pretty yarn!
ReplyDeleteThat yarn is so lovely!!
ReplyDeleteThat yarn sounds divine! And WOAH! Making up a sweater pattern...incredible. Can't wait to see how it goes!
ReplyDeleteI just checked out your link to the yarn and what a deal! I'm going back to decide on a color... Thanks. And good luck on the sweater. :{
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Debbie
Yeah! Go for it! Having just completed my first made-up pattern, I can recommend it. So much more fun than studying a pattern and wondering what the designer means. I'm looking forward to seeing how it develops.
ReplyDeleteI love top down sweaters and yours will be lovely! I think the color is quite cheerful :)
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely yarn! Great color, and it looks so soft. I've heard great things about that book, too -- I'll have to look for it at our library. (I always get the best inspiration from the other readers and knitters participating in Ginny's Yarn Along!
ReplyDeleteOh, the cooler weather is getting to me too. I keep eyeing the yarn and my needles. Haven't grabbed them up yet--too busy with the book. Looking forward to getting that done so I can spend some time knitting. By that time I'll have so much pent up urge-to-knit energy that I'll be whizzing through sweaters for everyone here! :-)
ReplyDeleteAh! You are so great - I loved that book! I was going to exclaim about it and then I saw you know me so well already. :)
ReplyDeleteYou are some kind of amazing knitter - making it up as you go??? Lucky Molly!
What have you been sewing lately?
Oh, I adore that green! I regularly buy from jimmy beans. Always great service, great prices and I love the quarterly? free shipping and $ off. Can't wait to see how the cardi turns out!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see how the sweater turns out! I'm so in awe of knitters like you who have the confidence to wing it! :)
